Beautiful Mess: Seeking Jesus, Finding Beauty
Motherhood is a beautiful mess.
One moment is filled with miraculous beauty and the next is hard and messy.
Motherhood requires every ounce of our energy—physical, mental, emotional, and so many prayers for discernment and help. But take heart, sweet momma, because you aren’t carrying this weight alone.
Through all the ups and downs, what we want most are clear and easy instructions for how to get through. But what we need is the stable anchor of Jesus.
Because in his mercy and goodness, God ordained this very role of mom for you. Not just to expose the mess of what it’s like or how you do it, but to magnify his holiness, power, and grace upon grace (1 Samuel 2:2, Ephesians 3:20, John 1:16, Romans 5:20).
Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow (Hebrews 13:8), and our dependence on the beautiful truth of his promises, presence, and provision must become increasingly greater and more valuable as we journey on this road of motherhood.
Abiding in Christ is what produces everything good in our mothering, marriage, relationships, work, and so much more (John 15:1-5, James 1:17). Oh how we need the regular ministry of God’s word to convince us of his goodness and worthiness of our whole heart, soul, mind, and strength (Mark 12:29-31).
But believing and following Jesus can be a little messy too, right? Hebrews 11:1 says that, “faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.” That kind of confidence isn’t always as easy as we would like for it to be. And yet there is no question too big for God or place in the universe that God cannot be to guide and hold and bring light to—there is no place where we are beyond God’s knowledge or care (Psalm 139).
Wouldn’t it be nice if faith, life, and mothering were beautiful and easy all the time?
Maybe there’s a part in all of us that imagines this as the “ideal.” But what if we learned to embrace the mess?
What if we chose to lean into our struggles, insecurities, weakness, and even our questions, looking to Jesus for the answer? What if we took all of our curiosity about why and when and how and found our confidence in the beautiful truth and authority of who God is and what he says?
It may not seem to immediately solve our day-to-day struggles, but it just might help us to come through the mess a little stronger, a little more hopeful, a little more secure and confident of God and his beautiful goodness on the other side.
Join us at MomLife this year as we grow more deeply rooted in our faith through seeking Jesus in the beautiful mess.
